Beast o'Clock
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Human for seconds. Then Beast for seconds.
Solve. Hide. Kill. Transform. The cycle never stops.
Expect Metal Gear stealth — the twist is the clock keeps transforming you into a blood thirsty monster, and then you need blood to survive.
This page is the manual for the game.
EARLY TIP: Hide before the clock hits zero — crates, closets, barrels. Bridge especially. Only human can open doors and interact with things. The beast cannot. He must kill then drink blood or hide.
IF YOU FEEL SLOW: You killed too many and went crazy. Go get yourself killed and it will clear. Sorry! It's supposed to clear on restart & level clear.
How to play
- Human: Get to the next door before you kill again
- Open doors, pick up keys
- Hide, turn out lights
- Talk, trade, pickpocket
- Run for your life!
- But try not to act suspicious! Walk by your coworkers
- Beast: You must get a kill. Then hide, drink blood, or kill more.
- 1st kill → heal a little.
- Kill more than once → become corrupted (lose sanity and move slower).
- 0 kills → lose life when you return to Human.
- Open the path as Human; hunt as Beast.
- Your goal is to get out. Get to the door at the end of the room. Some doors are locked.
- Escape the facility. Find a cure. Stop the madness.
- The Director will be waiting at the end, and he's the only one who would have the serum.
Controls (Mouse and keyboard!)
- WASD — move
- Click / E / Spacebar
- [Human] Interact
- [Beast] Attack, drink blood, hide
- (As beast, clicking will always attack. Use E or spacebar to interact as beast, sorry!)
- Shift — sprint (loud as human, silent as beast)
- Mouse — Face / Aim
- F (beast) — Roar! (lure?)
- Esc — pause
- T — speed up time
- Alt + Enter — fullscreen
The setup
There was an accident in the lab. Phil got hit with an incomplete biological weapon. Every ten seconds or so he becomes a raging Vampire Beast — murderous, hungry — then snaps back. Miss a kill as Beast and the transformation punishes you. Land the first kill (or drink blood) and you recover a little. Kill more than you need and lose your humanity. Gain Corruption, you lost sanity and get slower. That slowdown may persists across floors and restarts until you die or shed it (chests / clearing a floor). Feeling stuck in molasses after a restart? Check the Corruption bar.
Two gameplays, one tormented character
- Human Phil belongs in this facility — renowned researcher — but racing around while a “monster” is loose looks wrong. Use the Human window to progress: doors, books, talks, hides, lights, luring with sound or attention.
- The Beast can hide and must kill. Attack from behind (sneak) for a one-shot kill. He largely cannot interact: no doors, no books, no keys.
Sight, sound, smell, suspicion
- Vision cones — grazing one doesn’t always mean instant detection. Distance and darkness weaken sight. Smash lamps (Beast) to deepen the dark. Lights out of reach cannot be turned off.
- Sound circles — big ripples on screen; anyone inside hears it. Human walk ≈ quiet; Human sprint is loud; Beast is flying, thus silent.
- Dogs smell much farther than they see. Human Phil may pass; the Beast will not.
- Suspicion — run around as Human and they’ll interrogate you (it slows you). Walk. If someone watches you transform, they'll remember it's you — they shout it (call you a rat), and word can spread. Seeing the Beast triggers panic call-outs and “last seen” points others investigate. Some flee. Some freeze. Some fight.
If you beat the game, try the 5 Lives Challenge — five lives, no saves, but chests grant lives.
Content note
Pixel-art stealth with implied violence, blood feeding, and light body-horror. No realistic gore.

Install instructions
Windows: First launch may show a SmartScreen warning (unsigned jam build).
Click More info → Run anyway.
------------
Mac: macOS will warn that the app is “damaged” or can’t be opened — that’s normal for an unsigned jam build, not a bad download.
Easiest: install with the itch.io app (it usually skips this hassle).
If you downloaded the zip instead:
1. Unzip, then try right-click the .app → Open → Open.
2. If it still says damaged, open Terminal and paste these one at a time
(drag the .app onto the Terminal window to fill in the path):
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/path/to/Beast o'Clock.app"
codesign -s - --force --deep "/path/to/Beast o'Clock.app"
Then open the game normally.
